Someone told me that since the salt mine at Grand Saline, Van Zandt County, Texas was so large, the operators needed to have a motor vehicle underground to assist in operating the mine.

So, they disassembled a < jeep? pickup truck? some other kind of vehicle? >, moved the pieces down on an elevator, and reassembled the vehicle well below ground level.

Yes, children used to be able to tour the mine, but at some point, somebody came to the realization that bringing school children deep underground to view a working mine, may not actually be such a good idea.
