The above link, dated 4/24/2012, details how Smith and Wesson has provided all the Shield details to
the accessory makers, who are now busy pumping out holsters, lasers, etc. for the new gun.
So for anyone considering a Shield, you needn't hold off getting one due to lack of after-market products.

Re: NEW Smith & Wesson M&P conceal carry weapon
I went to the gun show in Tyler today and found three dealers offering the Shield for sale. One guy had a price tag of $499. That was $50 over the suggested retail. Another dealer had his for sale at the MSRP of $449. He wouldn't come down off of his price. The third dealer had his at $399 but had sold it already. I left the gun show and proceeded on to Academy and they were sold out. Said they sold them as quick as they come in at $399. I then went to Gander Mountain and they had one at $449. I asked them if they would price match Academy and they did.
So, did you actually buy one? If yes, is yours a 9 or a .40?

Re: NEW Smith & Wesson M&P conceal carry weapon
Just this minute I got off the horn with Academy in Lewisville (Denton County).
The gun counter guy told me that they got 2 of these guns in the day that they were announced.
He told me they were both sold by 4 PM that day.
He wasn't sure of any future incoming shipments of them to the Lewisville store, but said that they
usually get gun deliveries on Mon-Wed-Fri's.
The next delivery that may include some more M & P Shields will be Wednesday, April 25, 2012.
Good luck to any of my neighbors that may snag one of these next week. Please post on this thread
if you are able to get one, due to this entry.
TIA / SIA

Re: NEW Smith & Wesson M&P conceal carry weapon
Yes, perhaps females are PART of the prospective buyers of this weapon, but there are plenty of male shooters for whomsurferdaddy wrote:Looks really nice. I LOVE my 40c. I wonder if S&W was trying to capture a bit more of the female market with this one. My wife says that she feels like she is holding a cucumber when she holds my compact. I think this may open up the platform to individuals who other wide found the m&ps a bit chunky. I just how it's easier to shoot than my lc9, that little sucker bites!
a single stack 9MM or .40 would be just the ticket. "Thin is in" for some CHL's and it doesn't have to be a Kahr.
Taurus PT709 and PT740 Slims have sold in decent quantities, so Smith and Wesson is simply offering their alternative guns.
