Manfred:
Well, if we were at a courthouse paying a ticket we would
be unarmed and possibly DRT once the BG's rounds start
flying.
In the Tyler, Texas courthouse shooting the GG who used to be
a shooting instructor engaged the BG. The GG had a .45
pistol and was making hits on the BG. The GG lived across
the street from the courthouse and was able to be armed since
he was not inside the courthouse itself.
But the BG had body armor on and a semi-auto rifle (MAK-90,
IIRC). He was able to kill the GG. Later, Tyler PD chased the
BG on the roads for a while and ended up killing him with a head shot from
an M4/16.
By the way, posting any kind of thread is kind of a hit or miss game.
Sometimes I post something that I think will have only passing interest,
but the board runs with it and gathers many comments.
But on the other hand, I posted the Jacksonville, Florida LEO's gunfight
to the death with a BG, which I thought would provoke a lot of comments,
but to date - NADA on that one. It's already fallen to page 2 of the threads.

Re: Idea for discussion topics
Manfred:
From time to time we post threads about real-life armed encounters,
be they with LEO's or armed citizens.
When enough detail is provided, these threads give us
real life scenarios with which to decide tactics and also
the relevant Texas statutes under which we would be
making self defense decisions.
Fictitious situations would not provide the sense of realism
that we would encounter in real life.
You may wish to read http://www.thearmedcitizen.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for examples
of how GG's react when faced with BG's. These are true stories
of self defense from around the US, not just Texas.
