If you plan on moving Dad up eventually, you might as well get him into a .38 or a 9mm.
If he goes to .380, the ammo scarcity seems to still be in force.
Congrats on getting a gun into both sets of parents' hands.
As time wears on, they'll grow more comfortable with some firepower.
Mom with a .22 is still better than harsh words.

Congrats to your parents for becoming aware of the need for self-defense.
Your dad should take some training too. For those who have not shot weapons before,
it will be an eye opener, and then they will know just how loud that bang will be if they ever have
to use it for self-defense.
What is their handgun?
Do they plan on getting their CHL's? Whether one, both, or neither get their plastic,
getting a 2nd gun would be great so they'd each have their own piece.
