Re: Notify a business owner of unenforceable signs?

As I stated in the other thread, I will not try to determine their intent. If they are serious about "no guns" then they can seriously figure out the correct signage. It's not hard and not hidden. The bigger companies certainly have enough lawyers on staff that they should be able to figure it out. If not, they need to get new lawyers.

Gun busters and similar signs may OR may not be directed at the CHL. These signs may simply be directed to bad guys so if they rob the place a tack-on charge of trespass with a weapon can be added. Why would I feel compelled to stir the pot?

On the other hand, if I saw a business with a legal 30.06 I would be more likely to strike up a conversation with them to see why they feel that way and maybe convince them otherwise.

Years ago the ATT store in town had a 30.06 sign on the glass by the front door. I asked the manager about it and she didn't know anything of why it was there. I proceeded to work my way up to the vice-president's office. I spoke with the assistant. She wasn't sure why it was posted and, according to her, she was pretty sure ATT didn't have a policy. She went on to say the VP was an active shooter and didn't think he would be worried with CHLs. I started doing my business elsewhere for other reasons but the sign came down. Was it due to my persistance? Who knows? Best anyone, including me, could come up with is the store was posted previous to ATT moving in and nobody took the 30.06 sign down and never paid much attention to it.

The sign may simply be there because it was there when the shop moved in. If it is non-compliant then what is it hurting? Leave sleeping dogs lie. Sure, they may say, "it's to keep the bad guys out" or some such but they may say, "Thanks for letting me know, I'll put up a real 30.06." What has been accomplished then?

Why not give them the benefit of doubt and just leave a non-compliant sign alone?
