As the OP this post has well run its course.
Lock it.
As far as new information picture a old western movie with desolate streets and tumbleweeds blowing across the screen.
There just isn't any thing out there but I'll keep looking and listening.
If something comes up I'll start a new thread.

Re: Soccer dad pulls gun on coach's husband - Lubbock
No new info but I'm still trying.
Can't find any records that any charges were filed on anyone. But Lubbock is not that good with posting public records or documents.
Regardless of who is at fault, yadda, yadda, yadda, the news reported his CHL was sent to Austin. IF no charges are filed what is the status of Burke's CHL? I figure he gets it back but how would that work? Are there any legal consequences or liabilities for anyone involved by his CHL being taken away?

You are correct. Subject line changed.Greybeard wrote:Quote from Oct. 20 Channel 11 text: "Apparently, the coach's husband tried to stop Burke from yelling at his wife, and that's when the two men got into an argument in the stands. The police report states that the victim pushed Burke, and then Burke pulled a handgun and pointed it at the victim's head."
I've been out of town all week and am just now catching up to bits and pieces of this incident, but it appears the subject line of this thread would be more accurate if stating "Soccer dad pulls gun on coach's husband."

Re: Soccer dad pulls gun on coach - Lubbock
Naw, he doesn't say that. He says "...pushed by the coach's husband, and no assault charges have been filed but it will be interesting to hear if his lawyers try to use that in his defense." From one of the earliest reports, that is not archived, they (KAMC) clearly said no charges have been filed on the husband. This may have changed since these reports were made but I haven't heard or read different.txflyer wrote:Keith B posted this a bit ago: http://texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_Forum ... 60#p222329" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;troglodyte wrote:I may have missed it somewhere but where does it say the husband was charged? Follow the link there and about 1:30 into it the reporter mentions the husband has been charged with assault.
Still looking and waiting for more details. Any talk, information, etc. has simply stopped around here. Even the I-heard-it-from-a-friend-of-a-friend rumors have dried up.

Re: Soccer dad pulls gun on coach - Lubbock
Well......church was not enlightening, at least as far as this topic is concerned. More heresay but no reliable information and my "sources" didn't confirm any previous heresay, so pretty much a bust. We appear to have reached the point of hearing it from my brother's girlfriend's dad's uncle type of information now.
I guess we will know in all good time. I'll keep my ear to the ground.

Re: Soccer dad pulls gun on coach - Lubbock
As far as all the media reports and interviews there seems to be a distinct effort to separate the incidient from the CHL.
For the most part, our local news is pretty conservative when it comes to firearms and the 2nd Amendment.
I also applaud KCBD for taking a public stance.
Details, we've got to know the details.
I have heard some other "details" but I have not been able to qualify them to a reasonable degree and they do not directly apply to this incident. I'm still poking around. I have some questions to ask a few folks at church tonight. May not know anymore but it won't hurt to ask.

Re: Soccer dad pulls gun on coach - Lubbock
I believe I read where no charges have been filed against the husband. A question could also be, what was the husband saying? If he made threats, "I'll kill you." or "Shut up or I'll smack you across the field." then pushed him, how does it or does it not change the situation. What was dad saying to the wife?
Now...just to muddle things up...if the dad was justified in pulling his gun and the guard tackled him, would the dad be justified in shooting the guard? Should assault charges be filed against the guard?
I guess the point I'm making is where does it stop? If a guy is getting in my wife's face, I may be fearing for her safety and push the "assailant" away. The coach may not be able to leave the area as she is responsible for the players, even if the parents are there so a retreat may not be possible. I'm all for stand-your-ground but retreat is not always a bad thing. I may be violating the law with the push but I hope to think in this part of the country a man can still stand up for a woman's honor. Then you have to determine how much of a push it was. Was it a violent shove or a hand to the chest trying to provide separation?
When it comes down to it, dad made a bad decisions starting with yelling at the coach and then escalating it to find himself in jail with a deadly weapons charge. It becomes a guessing game until more details are known. While he may be found to be legally justified, I still say he did something really stupid and stupid should hurt.
I'll ask around and see if I can find out more specifics. I know someone who was at the location and may have been at that specific game.

Man Charged With Assault After Pulling Gun At Child's Game
Posted: Oct 20, 2008 05:15 PM CDT
A Lubbock man faces felony charges, after authorities say he pulled a gun during a children's soccer game. Police arrested 25-year-old Tye Burke on Saturday afternoon. He's now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities tell NewsChannel 11 that Burke was watching his child play at the Berl Huffman Complex when he apparently got mad at the coach and started yelling at her. They say the coach's husband tried to settle him down, and then those two got into a fight in the stands, and that's when Burke pulled a gun.
"It's unfortunate; it creates a bad situation for everyone. We certainly hate to see that in our community as well as any other community," Lubbock Police Captain Greg Stevens said. Police say an off duty prison guard tackled Burke when he saw Burke pull the gun and point it at the victim's head. Authorities say Burke eventually put down the gun, and they took him to jail.
Investigators tell us that Burke has a license to carry a concealed weapon, but that doesn't give him the right to threaten people. "The fact that the individual had a permit simply compounded the situation and brought into play a few other ramifications that will come into play down the road," Stevens said.
Lubbock police say they will turn Burke's permit over to the state, who will determine what other action to take. Again, Burke is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's since bonded out of the Lubbock County Jail.
Soccer Dad has his CHL. This is shaping up to be one of those STUPID IDIOT deals.
More details as they become available.
