S & W M & P or XD?

This is probably the wrong place to ask because there are so many XD fans here but I am considering buying either a S & W MP in 357 or a XD. Trying to get over the recent purchase of a Baby Desert Eagle 9mm by wife. Great gun but it's hers. I own a Sigma 9mm and like S & W products. The Sigma is very dependable but not too crazy about trigger pull.
Guy at the gun shop recommended the XD over the MP. Sounds like they are both good pistols. I've got some time to decide so I'm looking for info regarding both.
