Correct. The legislature will receive the university policies and review them every two years. If it looks like the universities are exceeding reasonable levels of restrictions on carry, then the legislature has the open to pass a bill to further restrict (or eliminate?) the regents' discretion.Vol Texan wrote:I don't think it is the legislature who is tasked to approve. The Statesman seems to be pushing it more than anyone in the news, and their reporters seem very biased and ignorant to much of the laws they're writing about.
And in defense of the gun owners contributing to the report: I have a suspicion that they may be putting things in there they know won't pass muster, but will more than likely shut up the anti-gun nuts for the time being, all well knowing they'll be shot down by either lawyers or leg before Aug 1st.
Speaking of, how is legislature supposed to approve or deny campus policies if they aren't in session between now and when they enact the law August 1st of 2016?

Tenured professors won't care.mreed911 wrote:And the student will post negative feedback, give a negative review, etc. and the professor won't be considered for tenure, contract extension, etc., then the student will file a complaint with a relevant dean about being discriminated against... the kiss of death for college staff.RHenriksen wrote:And the professor will freak out, lock himself in his office, start grading the student's papers harshly, etc etc etc.mreed911 wrote: Do you really think a prof is going to make that speech EVERY time? Discrimination only counts in academia for politically correct causes. 2A isn't one of those.

This looks like a very convenient way to unveil any license holders.

Re: UT Campus Carry - Surprise!!
But if you're an employee of the university, can't they bar you from carrying as a condition of your employment? I know the city of Houston has to let the public carry in municipal buildings, but they deny their employees the same right.
UTMacGuy wrote:This is the part I'm having trouble with:
• The occupant of an office to which he or she has
been solely assigned and that is not generally open
to the public should be permitted, at the occupant’s
discretion, to prohibit the concealed carry of a
handgun in that office.
• If the occupant’s duties ordinarily entail meeting
people who may be license holders, the occupant
must make reasonable arrangements to meet them in
another location at a convenient time.
This might not be a big issue for a lot of faculty and staff but for technology staff that have to go to many offices daily, that's an issue. But, just having the ability to carry all the way from the parking garage to my office is a big plus. Like a fellow CHL holder in my building said, "Baby Steps"!

I sure hope not.Charles L. Cotton wrote:I'm not sure that will fly either.
