RICHMOND – The Senate and the House of Delegates rushed to finish their respective legislative dockets Tuesday ahead of the "crossover" deadline.
Crossover marks the halfway point in the General Assembly session and is the deadline for the House and Senate to send their legislation to each other – except for budget bills.
In the wake of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Democrats in both chambers put forward gun control measures, including an assault weapons ban; a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines; and universal background checks for gun purchases.
All failed in the committee process.
