After reading your story and the first part of the quoted sentence I thought that sentence would finish a little different. Something like..So needless to say he is sleeping in bed and here I am shaking like mad out of fear of what might have been.
"So needless to say he is sleeping on the sofa for the foreseeable future and here I am shaking like mad out of fear of what might have been."
