Tired of carve outs for cops - they have been wrong on every citizen carry bill that has passed, but the legislature still makes special exemptions for them.
Wondering who made the amendment that could possibly delay/kill the bill? R or D?
:iagree: On the very same day that the police unions are protesting the expansion of our rights, the legislature grants them even more special treatment.
The amendment was offered by my rep, Jeff Leach (R). He's strongly pro-gun, so I don't think he's trying to stall or kill it. Most likely, he's just trying to appear pro-police.

That's not what the amendment does. It eliminates the fee for peace officers. It's still $40 for the rest of us.
My bad... I guess it's more carve outs for special interests. :grumble

Re: SB 16 - priority bill, reduction of LTC fees

It looks like it was amended by the House today, so it will have to go back to the Senate - http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLook ... &Bill=SB16

According to another thread on this board, the amendment reduces the cost even further, to $15 - http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/ ... 016H21.PDF

I understand your point, but we are dealing with a constitutional right. If the Legislature feels that the licensing law should exist for public safety reasons, then the cost should be born by the general public. The cost of voter registration is born by the public and voting is also a constitutional right.

Chas.
I agree. The LTC process isn't for our benefit. It's for the benefit of others so that they can feel safe with the idea that only licensed, vetted individuals will be carrying. If the general public expects me to jump through hoops so I can exercise a Constitutional right, then I think it's reasonable for me to expect them to pay for those hoops.
