Re: It Begins.....UPDATE: COMPLETED!!
We took a little bit of a right turn on the build. TLynnHughes scored a two-day Tactical Pistol / Carbine course this month at Tiger Valley! With the accelerated timeline, we decided to go (temporarily) with a complete upper from Del-Ton. It's an A-3, 16" barrel, mid-length gas system with a Yankee Hill Machine flip-up front sight assembly / gas block combination.
After I have the M.O.E. furniture installed, I'll post a pic of the completed carbine.
Cheers!

Re: It Begins.....UPDATE Lower Function Check
True that....we'll just call this a three gun carbine and not a battle carbine!AndyC wrote:Better be careful - people might be able to figure out your location because of that clickwilliamkevin wrote:...you can clearly hear the trigger reset between shots!

Re: It Begins.....UPDATE Lower Function Check
Here's a video of me shooting a 20 round magazine using this setup. If you listen close, you can clearly hear the trigger reset between shots!

Re: It Begins.....UPDATE Lower Function Check
Here is the lower installed on the upper from my carbine:
It functioned flawlessly! The Timney trigger is the best AR trigger we have ever used!
Here are the results of the function check at 20 yards fired offhand by TLynn:

Re: It Begins.....UPDATE Lower Complete
I like it a lot. It's more ergonomic than I thought it might be. The real test will be when she shoots it. Next week, we're planning to install the upper from my RRA carbine to function check the new lower.74novaman wrote:Very nice. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to go with the MOE furniture on my AR build or just standard M4 stock/handguards/grip.
How do you like the MOE stuff?

Those Timneys are SWEET!OldCannon wrote:Yup, once my 6.5mm Grendel comes in, I'll share the full pic. Right now I have a frankenlower (not related to Al Franken) that's patiently waiting for its mate
Doublestar lower, LMT SOPMOD stock, Timney #4 single stage too!
Hey, what's the make of the trigger guard you have on there?

Re: It Begins.....
Next up is a Spikes Tactical lower parts kit. We won't be using the trigger, hammer, disconnector, related springs or the pistolgrip from this kit as we have other parts in mind. We will probably go with a 4# Timney trigger assembly, single stage.

It Begins.....UPDATE: COMPLETED!!
We just picked up the first part for my wife's (TLynnhughes here on the forum) rifle build; a Spike's Tactical stripped lower. Got it while we were at the gun show at GRB in Houston today. I've always wanted to do an AR build and mentioned it to my wife. Imagine my surprise when she asked me to build hers! We're gonna have fun with this one, and I know she will have a blast picking out all the parts she wants. I'll update this thread as the build progresses.
