One of my relatives (great-great-great-uncle) died after the Battle of San Jacinto in the Texas Revolution. He wasn't killed by a Mexican musket ball...he was killed by dysentery. He had come to Texas in early 1836 and joined the revolution, and the rest of his family made the trip to Texas in 1842. His brother went on to be my great-great-great-grandfather.marksiwel wrote:Diarrhea killed more people than Bullets.MojoTexas wrote:

Re: What if (God forbid)...
One semi-famous quote, often attributed to Isoroku Yamamoto (Fleet Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during WWII), is:drjoker wrote:I think Obama might try some sneaky back door ban like an ammo ban because it will cost too much to buy back all the guns. At first, I was afraid that Obama may buy back all the guns like they did in Australia, but upon closer inspection, Australia has much less firearm owners than America per capita. There are 200 million guns in America. The average gun costs $400-500. That's $100 BILLION dollars that the government would have to cough up in order to buy all the guns from the private citizens who own them. That's on top of the TRILLIONS of dollars in federal deficit we have right now. I don't think that the USA could afford to buy all those guns. Did you know that private citizens of the USA own more guns than ALL THE WORLD'S ARMIES COMBINED? Pretty amazing, huh?
Even if Yamamoto didn't say it, it's pretty accurate! You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Re: What if (God forbid)...
Well, I'm not going to say it's pretty much guaranteed that Obama won't get a second term. It'll depend on who emerges as the front-runner for the Republicans, and it'll depend on Obama's popularity during the primaries. I have no doubt that Hillary has not given up on seeing herself in the Oval Office, and I'm sure she'd love to replace Obama in 2012 if she can garner enough support. The Annoyed Man wrote:First of all, I don't think he's going to get a second term. His and Pelosi's high-handed treatment of other pressing issues like healthcare "reform" has pretty much guaranteed that. In fact, it has pretty much guaranteed a Republican majority in Congress by 2012 at the latest.MojoTexas wrote:After the backlash from Clinton's 1994 Assault Weapon ban, and the firestorm of controversy that erupted when Obama was elected president, I think the anti-gun crowd realizes now that there is plenty of non-partisan opposition to further gun control. That's why Obama and Pelosi haven't been pushing it. Don't get me wrong...I think they will still try, especially if Obama gets a second term...but they know that it's not going to be an easy issue to pass.

Re: What if (God forbid)...
I think you'd see more arguments for secession, especially in Texas and parts of the South and Southwest. I'm not a crazy militia type that would normally support such an idea, but I frankly don't want to live in a socialist anti-gun welfare state like California or New York. If they tried to pass more restrictive federal laws banning firearms or handguns, then I might to start supporting such an idea, as a last resort.
