Tony Katz has coined a new term for those who blame all criticism of the President on race.

No.loadedliberal wrote: I will not back off my earlier accretion that anyone still making an issue of this either holds some level of resentment because the President is black or they are a tin-foil hat conspiracy theorist.
There are many reasons one could continue to make an issue.
The two choices you offer are not the only two because you see them as the only two.
Politics is a dirty business.
If by continuing to press any issue, including one that may appear to be settled, you can get the other to side to commit
a mis-step, you benefit.
It is a calculated power play.
As soon as the polls show the risk out weighs the benefit, it will go away.
BO released the certificate in the first place because it became more risky to not release it.
I think it's fun to watch the President get annoyed at this issue.
It has nothing to do with race for me.
BTW What does accretion have to do with this?

Re: the long lost birth certificate
Ok.
Off the oil thing and back on topic (for me any way ).
Apparently Chester Arthur had a birth certificate issue.
I think he was a white, Republican no less.

Re: the long lost birth certificate
The tax breaks that are use to villify them, are to allow them to expense the costs of drilling and exploration in the year in which they occur, rather than amortize them over the life of the well.loadedliberal wrote:The point is that they are making Billions in profits while also receiving hundreds of millions in tax breaks and subsidies,
That's how the tax code is written and it is reasonable, I believe. Maybe that will be changed. I don't know.
Any legal and legitimate tax deduction can be called a subsidy which implies evil intent if the political winds blow that way.
And right now they most certainly are.
The interest and property tax deduction on our homes is a huge subsidy supporting the housing industry.
It is worth hundreds of billions of dollars per year.
Wind, solar, high speed rail and electric cars are all receiving more tax breaks and subsidies than oil companies.
The all encompassing term of tax break is seen as a benefit to the large producers, which it is.
But it is also a benefit to small producers, many of which are also here in Texas and help to fuel the local economy.

I'm with you on this 74Novaman.74novaman wrote:
and only 3% of their revenue was from sales in the US of gasoline....but yes, we should absolutely pick on those evil oil companies, and not those who are printing the dollar faster than Charmin prints out rolls of TP, thereby devaluing the dollar and raising prices of commodities for us all.
Give me a freaking break!!!!
No one cried in the early 80's when oil hit $10/bbl. What the market giveth, the market taketh.
At least there should be consistency in the argument.

Yes it is!Oldgringo wrote:The GOP seems to have formed a circular firing squad.
BTW, did y'all hear that Exxon posted an $11,000,000,000 profit in the 1st quarter of 2011. Did anyone other than me buy petrol today? I had to wait while Brookshire Bros. in Rusk turned off the pumps to raise the cost of diesel $0.04/gallon on fuel that was in the ground at the store because the price of undelivered crude rose to nearly $113/barrel.
Is this a great country or what?
Buy gold, short the dollar, go long commodities. It will more than pay for your fuel.
