It has all the potential elements of clean self defense--dark, an armed aggressor, and the articulated belief that the aggressor had a weapon (Last time I checked, a beer bottle *is* a deadly weapon if one knows how to use it).

On the other hand, with the same elements in play, it could very easily go the other way....
