I can tell you how not to do so. I wear a 34 pant, so I figured I'd get at least +4 belt. A 38 belt is way too big.

I'd choose the holster, the carry position and the weapon, before the belt. Then you'll know how much extra belt you need.

But be prepared to pay at least $75-100 for a good belt. I have cheaper belts from Bianchi, but they are narrower than spec (1.41" vs.1.5") and less stiff than my good belts.

A good gun belt will last practically forever. Spend wisely.
