They may not take finger prints on renewal but I bet they still run them through the system for the renewal.Rex B wrote:They don't do fingerprints on renewals unless something has changed.jmra wrote:They do a much more thorough back ground check that includes finger prints which alleviates the need for the standard NICS check.Rex B wrote:I have run into FFLs that call in on all transfers, CHL or no, and I decline to use them, period.
When you renew your CHL, do they run a NICS check?
I'm not sure they do a full background check on a renewal. Anyone know for sure?
If they do a NICS check that would hit the Federal database and trigger a refusal based on SS data.
The question is, does the Texas background check also hit that database?

Re: Obama pushes to extend gun background checks to Social S
Not to my understanding. A FFL can call it in if they desire but if they chose to do that you could not take possession of the firearm until it was approved. I would not do business with a FFL who insisted on calling it in.The Annoyed Man wrote:Are you sure? I know that I would have received numerous phone calls from someone if they had to call them in later. One of the reasons I got my CHL is because I would get hung up in the NICS system - there is a felon in NJ with my same first, middle initial, last name, and birthday. It should never happen but I have actually been denied in the past due to this issue. So I'm sure they aren't calling mine in.

If you have a CHL you are exempt from NICS check. It also sounds like it would only be an issue if you were not capable of managing your own finances.RetNavy wrote:was planning on going to the gun show next weekend, but since i am on both Social Security Disability and VA disability might have to change plans.... might even have to start watching for those black Suburbans

I was wondering the same thing. Now if this were being used as a means to confiscate weapons that is a different conversation.Rex B wrote:I wonder how often a senior citizen whose mental acuity has deteriorated to the point where they can't manage their own daily affairs .... goes out shopping for firearms.
