So about a fourth of the states on the list. Of course the population of 9 of those states combined is less than the population of Texas.
Having spent some time in some of those states I can tell you that they are not nearly as gun friendly as one would believe.
WV actually has several cities that are allowed to have stricter gun laws than the state. If you live in one of those cities the state gun laws don't mean squat.
Of course you do realize 99% (ok, I pulled that number out of a hat - but you get the point) of the "no gun" signs posted in Texas are not legally enforceable, right?
I don't believe 30.06 is broken at all. I also don't believe 30.06 and OC do or should have anything to do with each other. One of the main reasons we haven't made progress on OC is because some people refuse to accept the aforementioned fact.

Granted, -getting- a carry permit there can be harder than pulling hens' teeth, and their "approved firearms roster" is total crap, but once you have it, there's very, very few places you can't take it.
Just thought it was rather amusing that such a restrictive state has overlooked yet another way to make honest folks into criminals.

The corporate offices for a company I worked for many years was in Reading, PA. As I recall other than hunting the area was not pro gun at all. Don't know much about other areas of the state.bizarrenormality wrote:Pennsylvania is one but they also don't criminalize failure to conceal so I'm not sure if that counts.

Can you list those states for me? Other than Texas of course. I travel some and it would be nice to know the states you are referring to.steveincowtown wrote:jmra wrote:Some things you must remember about La. So if you want to prevent a Sy character wannabe from walking into the store thinking he is going to show off his toys and his skeet shooting ability to the "family", you have no choice but to put up some kind of no gun sign.
Lessons learned from my 30+ years in La:
- Open carry comes with a price
- Texans don't realize how fortunate they are to have 30.06 signs
- you can't find a decent roast beef po-boy in Texas
JMRA I would have to respectfully disagree.
They are many, states where a No Gun sign has no force of law. You may be asked to leave private property for any reason, which would include if property owner did not like you open carrying. If you were concealed carrying they would have no way to know, and therefor know reason to ask you to leave.
This is much, much better than 30.06. I respect the people who crafted 30.06, and who fought for CC in Texas, but to say we are "lucky" to have 30.06 is only true when compared with states like LA.
Anyhow, I get all my duck dynasty stuff at Academy. Not a single one posted...

Labor intensive but worth it.bauer wrote:Lets have it!jmra wrote: Now, if you want to spice up Thanksgiving, I can give you a recipe for a New Orleans hot ham that will blow your socks off and have you coming back for more.![]()
Start off with a large bone-in smoked ham (20lb range).
Cut off skin and excess fat.
With a large fork poke as many holes in the ham as you can.
Coat the inside of a turkey sized oven bag with flour.
Place ham in the bag.
Pour a large bottle of liquid smoke over the ham.
Cut open a bag of Zatarain's crab boil and spread the contents on the ham.
Spread 2 to 4oz of Cayanne pepper over the ham (I go heavy but the amount to use is much like the whole caliber debate).
The turkey bag will come with a plastic tie for the end of the bag. Place a pencil in the opening and tighten the tie around it (don't forget to remove the pencil).
Hopefully you have already placed everything in a large pan.
Preheat oven to 350.
Place ham in oven for 30 min at 350 then lower to 225.
This is the hard part - every hour turn the ham upside down (easier to turn just the ham and not the bag-donot open the bag). Be careful not to spill the juice or punch a hole in the bag. The ham is going to make a lot of juice. Turning the ham allows all of the meat to soak in the juice.
Continue this process until the meat falls off the bone (you will go to turn the ham and will be left holding the bone). This process can take 8-10 hours.
You can use the juice for additional flavor when eating the ham but it also is great for killing ant piles in the yard.

If it has shrimp, crawfish, or crab in it we've eaten it.Oldgringo wrote:Yes, I have had Muffulettas. Have you ever had a shrimp, a crawfish or a crab Pistolett?jmra wrote:

What kind of po-boy did you have and from where? My favorite is a roast beef with mayo and gravy (no rabbit food) from Come Back Inn in Metairie. Fried shrimp po-boy is also really good.
Ever have a Muffuletta? My kids grew up here in Texas but every couple of months they start bothering the living day lights out of me until we cave in and do a weekend trip for some New Orleans cooking.

I suppose you're right though, that would be a logical enough reason for me to probably do it as well after the 457th wanna be Robertson came in slinging a Mossberg 500 over his back and decked in camo from head to toe.

Some things you must remember about La. It is an open carry state for both handguns and long rifles. There is no way to prevent unpermitted open carry without preventing all forms of carry.
