She says a janitor, who also works at the school, put it there the night before. She claims the gun belongs to him. According to Kemp, he was planning on coming home with her on the day she was arrested. “He was planning on coming home with me Friday to meet my mom, and that was it,” she said.
However, Kemp says his girlfriend found out about it.
I'm glad it worked out for her legally but
maybe she should rethink her taste in men.
Maybe a makeover first.

Authorities say Kemp's co-worker put the gun in her car the night before, but when he tried to get it back she wouldn't give it to him.
Kemp has been a tutor at Fondren Middle since August of 2011. She was originally hired as a math tutor, but until Friday was most recently helping students with science. HISD says Kemp resigned in lieu of termination.
The district reiterates that safety is its top priority.
A law that went into effect in September 2011, makes it legal for anyone with a concealed handgun license to keep a gun locked up in their car at work, even if the workplace policy prohibits a guns on property. However, this law doesn't apply to schools and certain industrial sites.

On the TV there was a lawyer or judge speaking saying that last paragraph.
I was referring to the story. It will change four or five times in the next few weeks until it morphs to an arsenal of M4s in the trunk.

Three pages of speculative bull finally someone posts the law rather than making an unqualified statement about the law, or what they "think" the law said... the rest of you should take a lesson from this post.
Not only are Songbird's posts very informative, she is also very polite - which is a lesson we can all take from her posts.

Dragonfighter wrote:howdy wrote:Or it is as simple as the HISD Police not knowing the law, the Asst. DA not knowing the law, and the Tutor being arrested and charged. We had a Constable saying she was going to arrest a CHL holder at Church for being armed. She called the DA's office and THEY told her it was illegal for a CHL to carry in a place of worship. Even after I told her it was legal, showed her the law, she still said she was going to arrest and let the CHL work it out in court. We finally convinced her not to do it.
And how did this CHL come to a constable's attention?
I have the same question. Concealed is concealed.

Keith B wrote:This ought to be interesting. If they charged her under 46.02, then the charge is bogus as she was not on the premises. The only way they might have gotten her was if their employee handbook has valid 30.06 verbiage in it.
Did she have a CHL?

I work at a school. I can't tell you how many people I have heard talk about having a gun in their car 24/7. You should see how big their eyes get when I tell them they are breaking federal law not to mention the employee handbook by having it on school property. Of course none of them have a CHL.
