I am not surprised that the officer shook his hand. I can understand the apprehension towards doing so in general, but a CHL, who has behaved appropriately and cordially, should not be considered a risk by the end of a traffic stop. I have shaken the hand of the last three officers who have pulled me over and thanked them for their service to their community/the state of Texas, depending upon if they were local LEO's or DPS. One of them apparently thought about it for a second (a local LEO, but not local to where I live) and the other two (DPS troopers) immediately shook my hand.

Maximus, you ran into one of the many very professional LEO's we have in this great state. Remember that having a gun in your car is now covered in multiple ways, if you have your CHL, so, while you might get hassled about it a little (disarmed temporarily), you should have no legal worries.
