That's what I was saying. Without knowing what model number he was looking at, we couldn't really know how good or bad of a deal he was looking at. He could have been looking at a great deal like at 9109 for the $649 or a not-very-good deal of a very basic GI mil-spec for the $649. I just picked the 9109 model number because it is one I was familiar with.KinnyLee wrote:I have not seen a PX9109 priced at $649 for a while. I remember pay slightly over $723 for my PX9109. Given to inflation over the past few years, that's an excellent price.barres wrote:For example, if you were actually looking at the Loaded Parkerized model (PX9109), then $649 is a good deal for a new one (Sporting Arms lists that one for $723, I think).

Re: Looking for advice on buying a new 1911
See, that's why I asked for the model number. I was looking at the wrong Mil-Spec Springer! That is a much smaller difference than the roughly $200 difference I thought you would be looking at, and I wouldn't want that kind of drive and gas cost, either. I didn't know where you were. My apologies for trying to lead you astray. Enjoy your new pistol!MoparMuscle wrote:Thanks for all the replies. Well I pulled the trigger and bought the PB9108LP at 649.00. The Sporting Arms in Lewisvile had it for 569.00 including the CC surcharge but I would have to have driven for 6 hours and spent 50.00 for diesel. Mow I've got to go to Wal-Mart and get some shells and hope they are less than the 23.00 Gander wanted for their cheapest shells. I can't wait for it to get a little warmer this weekend so I can try it out.
While I was there I also picked up a Mossberg JIC 500 pistol grip 12 Ga. pump for good measure.

Re: Looking for advice on buying a new 1911
Man, those Springer Mil-spec's sure have gone up! Just 2 or 3 years ago, you could get the parkerized model for about $450 - 500, it seems. I tend to agree with whoever said that, since you're talking new guns, go with the Springer. Their Customer Service has arguably the best reputation in the business, if you ever need it. That being said, if you shop around, for about another $100 or so, you can step up to the Springer Loaded parkerized model, which has a beavertail grip safety, abidexterous thumb safety, and Novak night sights, plus some other upgrades I'm probably forgetting.
Okay, I did a little looking online, and you can still get the Parkerized Mil-Spec for less than $500 from Sporting Arms, a DFW-area dealer. Do you happen to remember the model number of the pistol you were looking at? Springfield Armory has an awful lot of models that sound and look a lot alike, but the prices can vary quite a lot. For example, if you were actually looking at the Loaded Parkerized model (PX9109), then $649 is a good deal for a new one (Sporting Arms lists that one for $723, I think). I'm not trying to be critical of you, but I know I'd want to be told if I could save a couple of hundred bucks on a gun purchase.
By the way, the older Colts generally have wonderful collector's value, so, if you were looking at used pistols, my opinion would likely flip. Either way, I'm sure you will enjoy your new purchase!
