Re: Killeen: dog shooter charged

I've lived in Bell County my whole life with the exception of 4 month stretch in Cali about 6 years ago....whew, good to be home. I've also worked in and around LE in Bell County since 2001 and my prediction is that he will walk. The DA here will not take a case that he is not just darned near 110% positive he will win. The big thing here has been meth and other drug charges. The shooting of a vicious dog, a pitt bull of all breeds, is not high on the no-no list in this area right now, as numerous young children have been mauled and some killed as of recently. The "Discharge Firearm in City Limits" charge might make, since he was dumb enough to talk and say he fired a warning shot, but if he gets a decent defense attorney, he'll plea bargain it down to a nothing crime.

Now, on to why he thought he could carry without a license....it's Killeen. For those who are not familiar with the city, I don't go within 10 miles of that city without a press check and adjusting my firearm to make SURE I can draw quickly. The crime in that city is higher than a pot-head in a marijuana forrest fire! Not to mention that most of the people are packing illegally, I would assume that the gentleman in question may have noticed this trend and assumed it was a legal act. There are basically four types of people in that city, listed in order of percentage of population: Soldiers, criminals, retail sales/customer service workers, and city employees. There are also those that fall into two categories, ie: sodliers who are also criminals, city workers who are also criminals, retail sales people who are also criminals...do we see a common thread here? I don't blame the guy for packing or shooting the dog, I think he was stupid for not researching the laws first, I think he was stupid for firing a warning shot, and for admitting it to the police, but I think he'll be okay.
