Re: No Need For NRA Certfication? Here's What The Auditor Sa

Missed all of you as well but, I've been tied up with one thing or another for a couple years. Will certainly strive to be more active going forward. Someone posted a new thread about an email I guess we all got from DPS. All I can say is what a waste of time. It doesn't clear anything up as the RSD...

Re: No Need For NRA Certfication? Here's What The Auditor Sa

Folks, I just got off the phone with DPS and was told by the technician answering the phone that ALL new instructors must either be TCLEOSE, NRA or otherwise certified as a firearms instructor to renew my instructor certification. Two things here: 1. Maybe it's just me who doesn't understand this, ...

Saulius "Sonny" Puzikas coming to the Impact Zone, May 21-22

This is a unique opportunity and highly recommended. Anyone who owns a Kalashnikov or "AK-47" pattern rifle with thoughts of using it as your urban/defensive rifle should seriously consider attending this class. Even if you aren't an AK fan, this is a class worth attending as all of the ma...

Re: Doing my first IDPA match this Wednesday

Words of advice: 1) Plan to have fun but, be vigilant with respect to the four core rules of firearms safety because this is a sport where saying "I'm sorry" isn't enough to make up for catastrophic failures 2) Check your ego at the gate...We point and laugh at EVERYBODY! 3) Bring lots of ...

Re: anyone carry FMJ in a backup mag next to JHP?

Since the subject seems to tend toward cover and penetration, I would like to provide a link that may help to enlighten some of you as to the "myth of cover" as it were. http://www.combatshootingandtactics.com/published.htm The second article listed is entitled "The Myth of Cover&quo...

Re: anyone carry FMJ in a backup mag next to JHP?

i was thinking about this but in a theoretical self defense situation hopefully it will not turn into a gun fight and you would not need to fire morethan a few rounds. but better safe than sorry i beleive. reason im asking is that i beleive a high quality JHP "ranger T, gold saber... etc) woul...

Holy crap! The man charged the magazine with his FEET!!! THe next time a shooter tells me he/she can't follow basic instructions with a handgun or shoot with any degree of competence, I'm going to show them this video.

Re: Learn "Practical Shooting" or competitions?

I've had my CHL about a year and I shoot at indoor ranges fairly often (almost weekly), but it's the same thing... shooting at a paper target from varying distances. Years ago, before getting into shooting handguns, I watched a friend of mine do a shooting competition of sorts at American Shooting ...

Re: 1911: Compact vs Full Size

I currently own a Rock Island 1911A1 GI model. 5 inch, bare bones 1911. Love the gun. It does make me wonder though: Whats the advantage of a 4 inch 1911? Does that extra inch really make it that much harder to carry a full size? For that matter, the compact models with smaller round counts confuse...

Re: expected accuracy from carry pistol at 15 yrd

Lots of good comments have already been made. My opinion is that the accuracy you can expect depends almost entirely on you. Nearly all reputable handguns on the market today are mechanically capable of shooting well under an inch at fifteen yards. Many, including most modern 1911's, are capable of ...

Re: Status of Sportsman's Outlet Humble

The short version is that after almost a year of claiming they accepted that the fire was one big "no fault accident" and claiming they wanted their old shooting clubs and long time customers to return as soon as possible, we found this was not the case. Specifically, more than once, our s...

Re: Status of Sportsman's Outlet Humble

Thanks...Been pursuing other interests for a while and really hadn't had much time for the forum. I've spent a bunch of time with a camera attached to my face over the last year but, I never gave the guns time to get cold. Looking forward to CHL Forum Day to see old faces and meet new folks.

Re: Status of Sportsman's Outlet Humble

Sportsman's Outlet has changed ownership since this story made the news. While I am in no position to comment on the validity of charges, one telling quote that came out of the gossip surrounding the case was "...the dangerous thing about the ATF is they have all the time in the world and all o...
