For $885 mount included the trijicon 3x9 with mount might be a rock solid all around ; http://www.laruetactical.com/trijicon-a ... 04-1-mount" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or the Burris http://www.laruetactical.com/burris-xtr ... ical-mount" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in 1x4 Both are illuminated.
for $600 ish http://www.laruetactical.com/aimpoint-c ... ical-mount" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; For Home defense or work out to 200 yards (for my aging eyes anyway) the Aimpoint with Larue QR mounts will sit with the scope on for 5 years.....something the Eotechs don't do or they have the Patrol version for $200 less....ymmv Do you use night vision much?
Spend a little more and they have the Aimpoint T1... all can co-witness with your iron sights for a best of both worlds. If the battery were to fail the big ring of the sight works like a ghost ring in the short indoor defense ranges of a hallway.
The Eotech does have the ring and dot which for some might be great. I had LASIK and the outer ring is a little dazzeling to me (like looking into the scanner at the store) when I try to make precision shots but would be great for fast shots on running hogs tec. Batteries are common but only last 500-600 hrs.
They best solution might be to get TWO ARs and then scope one with some good glass and the other set up for HD....but then you migh want a light weight one and a heavy barrel version...... Yeah 4 Ars should do....unless you have a two story home where you might want several on each floor

For what it is worth, I personally have one set up in the carbine form with light, and aimpoint for HD and daytime/nightime hogs on the run. I have a 20 inch bull bbl with a 6-18 mounted low on ARMs QD rings with no sights as a target, longer range precision hunter. The 6-18 is really too big for 99% of my hunting needs and I was about to get a 1-4x30mm to use for anything but punching paper for groups but then the country went nuts and supplies ran low.
