That's why I use a PO box on my ham ticket.magicglock wrote:I have been really shocked by the number of people willing to post their call signs on this forum! I have been licensed since 1993 No-Code Tech and renewed my license in 2003. While telling everyone that you are licensed and giving out your call sign is not normally problematic, I have been very reluctant to post my call sign on a public gun forum. Any person with limited knowledge of Ham Radio can find any number of call sign databases and have a little more information than I would like to post. Why not just post a sign in your front yard that says hey bad guys here is my real name, my address, and a list of firearms I own? With a little more digging on the forum they might just learn a little too much about your defense strategy or other personal details of benefit to a bad guy.
Am I a little paranoid or did the thought just not occur to anyone?

Re: Any other HAMs?
KA5RLA here. General ticket, although I haven't done much with it the last few months. (priorities kinda changed when my husband suffered a stroke in June.) First radio was a VX-8R.
Definitely wanting to get back into it but I need to replace cables & antennas as we just had a rather "disappointing" experience yesterday.... (details forthcoming in the Prayer Request section.)
