[nitpick]Just as we chide others about the incorrect use of terms like "assault rifle" and "clip", let's keep our terms straight on this issue. The "Stars and Bars" is the First National Flag of the Confederacy, which resembles a simplified US flag - two horizontal red stripes - or "bars" - and one white, with a blue field and white stars.

In the fog of war, it could be mistaken for the Stars and Stripes.

The battle flag or naval jack, the center of the current controversy, is the familiar "X" - actually based on the cross of St. Andrew, adapted to American colors and fixed with stars. [/nitpick]
