But what is the source of said guarantee? Some call DPS and are told NO grace period (including some of my students) while others are told yes. Sounds like right hand don't know what the left is doing. Our "false advice" is only because this is what we were told only last month.infoman wrote:I'm not here to talk about what the law does or doesn't say.. Nor am I trying to say what "ought to be or not". What I am saying is that DPS is renewing persons licenses who are within the one year grace period, just like before. There's many persons on this forum telling people otherwise & it's giving false advise. I gaurantee if someone is within their one year grace period & sends their documents/fees right now their licenses will get renewed. Again, not saying what ought to be, I'm saying flat out what IS.

Re: CHL Renwal Apps before Sept 1
CHL instructors will soon have to take a renewal class. I spect this will be one of the topics covered. Since I was told today that yes, there is still the grace period, I will go with that till I hear otherwise. But before we can just accept your word, we need to know source of confirmation?infoman wrote:100% absolute certain, renewals will still have a one year grace period. I have better sources than anyone here, including Mr Cotton.

Re: CHL Renwal Apps before Sept 1
UGH! The reason why I called was I had a student in that condition...expired in March. I was told clearly grace period will continue. So he calls them (he just let me know) as they told me he needed to, and this person tells him there is no grace period, he now needs an original. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. We MUST have a definitive answer from them.

18 years from now they will say they misunderstood the law and enforce it....switch wrote:The grace period will probably continue until some anti-gun group or politician sues DPS. Or get the AG to issue an opinion.

Re: CHL Renwal Apps before Sept 1
Right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.... just got off the phone with the DPS in Austin, was told they just had a meeting in which they were told the practice of the one year grace period will continue. I challenged him somewhat, he put me on hold and went to talk to a supervisor. He said they tried to pass it so that there would be no grace period but failed, that the grace period will continue as always has.

Re: CHL Renwal Apps before Sept 1
I'm looking right now at Charles Cotton's legislative update given at the Instructor's conference. He specifies no more grace period. One day late and you have to take original.infoman wrote:Sorry Tic Tac, your totally wrong. There is a one year grace period on renewals. This is still in effect even after Sept. 1
