A friend of mine spoke with one of the DPS Instructors who told them that all must be certified TECLOSE or NRA instructors prior to renewal. I know a lot of us had assumed, but this was first time I heard it as coming from anyone official. Or were you meaning where did I read that BIT came with the Firearm Safety in the Home course? That is stated on the link above.

No offense intended towards your friend, but until DPS puts that out publicly, isn't that kind of like a "friend of a friend said"? FYI, I've got no dog in this fight as I'm not an instructor (yet) and am just taking my NRA courses this weekend.

My point is that before we had put two and two together and came to some reasonable assumptions we would have to at renewal for all to be on same page, but that this was the first time I had heard anyone say they specifically spoke to anyone connected to the DPS CHL instructor program and received an answer. That remains true.

I just signed up for the NRA classes that will be required for us, in case any would like to sign up or do this class together. It is a Mon/Tues April 1&2 as Sat/Sun is out for me. There is a pre-pay discount. This includes the required Basic Instructor incorporated into the Home Firearm Safety class.
