Re: First Baptist Euless
So to end it on a joke.... Little boy was standing outside of a church building, looking at a plaque with a list of names of members of that church who died in varies wars. The preacher walks up and asks "Do you know what that is son?" Little boy says "No sir." Preacher says "It's a list of members who died in the service." Little boy gulps real big, and asks "Morning or afternoon?"

Re: First Baptist Euless
And too, remember often what they are taught to do is different from what CHL-ers do. LEO's are about apprehending, closing in, etc. We are defensive and try to move away and make space. In the shooting schools, we excercised shooting at targets while moving backwards. LEO's shooting moving in.JP171 wrote:The people who believe that only military and police should be the only ones with handguns don't know squat! I was in the army for several years, like about 14. I did have knife training not just bayonet, I did have handgun training, machinegun, heavy machinegun and rifle training as well as several other types of weapons. However this is not the norm as most soldiers are given basic rifle training and nothing else.

Re: First Baptist Euless
So what we are saying is that a person shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun unless they are trained as good as CHL-ers are!

Re: First Baptist Euless
Neice was in NG 3 years full-time. She never shot a single handgun, long gun only. A Buddy was in Army, he said officers got handgun, but in basic he shot one mag of a .45 and that was it. I worked with a fellow in the Air Force and no handgun. In my Basic Handgun 101 class I have had several military who didn't know handgun. Re: First Baptist Euless
I hear there is a church in Brownwood where folks been known to pull their newest guns out to show them off after services and the preacher uses gun and shooting examples in his sermons for various points...

Then why aren't police and military better trained in handguns then? I don't know how many military I have worked with who either were not given any training at all in handgun or one fellow told me he shot one magazine once. On Police... I think most folks would lose confidence in law enforcement if they knew how little handgun traing they got in the academies. A couple of the schoolsI went to had LEO's in it because they said they DIDN'T get much training in the academy in handguns. One was a 15 year Arlington PD and he could not hit the broadside of a barn. I feel most of us have had as much traing in that area. Now the other forms of self defense, the administrative, other laws, procedural matters they are taught...not as much.carlson1 wrote:A very promianant police chief in the DFW area is on the deacons board or the trustee board. Nice guy well enough, but he is one of those that believes in ALOT of training and range time before being allowed to own firearms.
Pretty much restricted to military and police only.
