LOL, actually, I have heard that story told as a joke for years (but it was a chihuahua in the joke). What's really bad is that our mall here limits the number of children you can bring in the mall at a time to 6.....we have 10 children who are very well behaved, homeschooled. Prejudism and stupidity comes in all flavors.jimlongley wrote:A customer was in our Home Depot with a cute little Maltese. He told me that he had taken the dog into Kroger and they had told him that he couldn't bring a dog into the store. He held the dog up and told them it was a seeing eye dog. They responded, "But it's a Maltese!" To which he replied, in shock as he groped around "A Maltese? They gave me a Maltese?" and wandered, still groping, out the door.wgoforth wrote:seamusTX wrote:That's why some business used to be whites-only, and some resisted the Americans with Disabilities Act, and some still throw out blind people with seeing-eye dogs.

Re: Letter to Eyemasters regarding 30.06 sign
No idea bro...when they are out, I can usually get it at the indoor range in Abilene. Even our little Weakley Watson hardware has it at a price ($49 for 100 WWB). We are out of the way enough that it may be that there are less buyers snatching it up for gouging...or maybe we are supplied by another districts warehouse. The Academy here was limiting it to one box per person though.

Stupid ammo hoarders can only explain the absence of ammo in general, but not the absence of ammo only of a particular caliber. What will Obama do next to keep guns out of the hands of the "unwashed masses"?
I heard the president of Hornady explain the shortage of the 380 on GunTalk Radio. He said that 380 had been one of the least used calibers until the LCP came out. Typically, they made ONE batch of 380 ammo a year. Then the LCP came out, and it skyrocketed. You cannot just change out your equipment in mid-run of other calibers, so that left them 6 months behind in orders. Those who wanted an LCP and couldn't find them settled for the Kel Tec P3AT that had been out for years, so that now the sale of the P3AT's skyrocketed. Then came the Obama administration so that on top of it being in short supply, you had hording on top of that. Now you have the Taurus TCP that has come out in recent months adding even more demand. As to a box of 20 for $45....it's called gouging pure and simple. Unless those are silver bullets to kill the wolfman, there is no other excuse. I just bought a box of 50 fmj Monarch in the 380 at Academy in Abilene this last Thurs for $14.95. I'm not seeing it in the short supply here as bad as I am hearing from other places. The salesman at Academy said that gun show dealers are coming in and buying theirs up and reselling them for triple the price at gun shows.

Re: Letter to Eyemasters regarding 30.06 sign
lol, sorry to have done some hijacking. You had a valid point and wanted to clarify a misunderstanding about the nature of the special days at theme parks. Still think we ought to ask 6-Flags if they would allow "Conceal Carry Day" at the park just to see what they would say!seamusTX wrote:I'm sorry I brought up the Disney "gay days." Please post when Eyemasters puts up their "welcome CHL" signs.

Re: Letter to Eyemasters regarding 30.06 sign
LOL, it is generally only advertised among the groups/magazines/forums of the said event. I have had experience with the Home School Day at 6 Flags for example... it is advertised among home school forums, magazines, etc.. you buy your tickets in advance through the dept listed in the advertisements. As with the homeschool groups, I KNOW there were non homeschoolers that came, but the park didn't care... they still had paying customers. I am looking at the 6-Flags website now, and although there are 2 Homeschool Days a year (one in the spring and one in the fall) and a "church of Christ day" as well...none of those are listed on the calendar.KD5NRH wrote:If that was the case, wouldn't it make sense for Disney to have it on their official event calendar? I know I'd be mad if I went all the way to Orlando and couldn't because I couldn't prove...wait a minute...that's not exactly a field on the driver's license...how would they prove, um, that, to get a discount?wgoforth wrote:And, those in that group are given discounts on their tickets. At 6-Flags at least, the park is even closed to the general public until 5:00. Don't remember on Disney World.
So these are events approved of by the park, but not necessarily originated by the park...if that makes sense. It is requested by a group, but park gives it the approval/disapproval.

Re: Letter to Eyemasters regarding 30.06 sign
It is a "quasi official" day at Disney. Just like with 6-Flags or any of the other theme parks, a representative of some group approaches the park management and says "have you thought about having x-day?" the board decides and gets back with that person who then lines up lecturers and booths for that theme.... both the individual and the park management work together on it. For instance, 6-Flags has a "church of Christ day" and a "home school day" etc. And, those in that group are given discounts on their tickets. At 6-Flags at least, the park is even closed to the general public until 5:00. Don't remember on Disney World. HEY! maybe we can get "Concealed Carry Day!"KD5NRH wrote:Is that an official Disney event? Doesn't look like it's on the Disney calendar, so it's no different from us all deciding to go to Taco Bell and declare CHLForum Day. So, you're actually supporting my argument by pointing out that Disney isn't willing to kick out however many gays show up for that event.seamusTX wrote:I think that a person has to take a realistic approach. Telling a business, "We hate you and we're not going to spend money with you," does not work.
Disney World still has "gay days," don't they? Yep.
For that matter, if EyeMasters wants to have one day a year designated no-carry, I won't mind too much.

Re: Letter to Eyemasters regarding 30.06 sign
When we lived in FL, one year Disney World even had their gay day the same day as their "home school day"..... I'm sure that was an accident.....seamusTX wrote:I think that a person has to take a realistic approach. Telling a business, "We hate you and we're not going to spend money with you," does not work.

Re: Letter to Eyemasters regarding 30.06 sign
My hesitancy in this type of thing is in that you have law enforcement like here who says that the sign is still sufficient enough to express the owners desire, regardless. As such, same uneducated LEO can arrest, and have you stand before an equally uneducated judge.
To give you an idea, we moved here from Abilene. We sold our house there and purchased one here in Brownwood. Simple process called "dual closing" is done more often than not in Abilene, where your lawyer has 2 stacks of paper... one on the house your selling, one on the house your buying. One fell swoop. Lawyer in Brownwood never heard of it and didn't know how to do it. lawyer in Abilene says "you don't have to, you fax me the documents and we handle it here in Abilene." Both lawyer and Abstract office in Brownwood says "We've never done it that way, and we aren't starting." As a result, my family was "homeless" for a weekend. I am finding this mentality on a lot of things here...it's the way grandaddy did it, and it was fine then.
I don't worry too much as long as I am well concealed, but I rather doubt that the "doesn't meet the criteria for a legitimate 30.06" to work around here.
