The Crimson Trace page for that 1911 product specifically says it is designed to attach to the trigger guard. The lightguard I have for an XD does not do that and the page for the Glock 19 doesn't say anything about it. I would say to call Crimson Trace (as suggested) if you want to be sure. If you look under the "FIT NOTES" tab on the Crimson Trace website, it says Gen 3 and Gen 4. You can also search for products by generation number and it only has options for 3 and 4.
IMO, you dealer is wrong. The Lightguard attaches with the accessory rail. If there is nothing to hang onto, it won't work. I have a Lightguard on an XD 45. It attaches at the rail for installation. I really like the product, but I think you need a rail. You can always try the lasergrip that wraps around the grip, but the one I tried I found very uncomfortable.
