Interesting. I am not sure about the details, but it sounds like enough voters didn't like what was going on and decided to make a change. IMO, there is little excuse for these cases to be dragging on this long.McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna was defeated by Barry Johnson, a personal injury lawyer with no criminal law experience. Johnson’s campaign focused on allegations that Reyna’s decision to arrest and charge more than 150 bikers was politically motivated. Motorcycle club members campaigned vigorously to defeat Reyna.

Re: Shooting at Twin Peaks in Waco
Perhaps someone knows this answer: Does the prosecution have to turn over ALL evidence to the defense? How much can the prosecution decide to withhold? What are the typical consequences if evidence is withheld?

Re: Shooting at Twin Peaks in Waco
That is what I didn't understand about the whole thing and still don't. One would think that after a few days or a few weeks they could have reviewed the camera footage and released all but those directly involved. At least narrowed the number down below 50. I keep wondering if we will eventually find out what all went down behind the scenes in that first week, but I am doubtful.

Re: Shooting at Twin Peaks in Waco
I find it a little odd, but I guess the forensic evidence would rule out the idea of the police shooting some of the victims. I am curious what evidence they have that specific people did the shooting. Supposedly there was a lot of video so we will see when that goes public.mojohn wrote:

Can they show which people fired weapons and then prosecute them as accessories to murder even if they can't prove it was them that killed the victim?

Re: Shooting at Twin Peaks in Waco
Wow. What a mess. I realize some of these guys aren't angels, but justice should move better than that. And these are just the first couple of trials.JustSomeOldGuy wrote:The legal fiasco is still dragging on....

So are any of the bikers accused of murder?

Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of the melee that erupted among rival motorcycle clubs in a Waco sports bar, leaving nine bikers dead and about two dozen injured.
One year later and still lots of open questions about this one.The criminal cases filed in McLennan County appear to have stalled, however, at least for now. No trial dates have been set. Authorities won't say which club members may have shot, stabbed or assaulted another, or which may have been shot by police. And even details about potential trials is unclear.
The handling of the case has left family members wondering when they will get answers to what happened at the Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco that rainy Sunday.

Here is a youtube link to some dashcam footage from outside the Twin Peaks in Waco. From this vantage, it looks like most were not participating. I guess we will see if other video is released.

Re: Shooting at Twin Peaks in Waco
Yeah, I thought all the Federal guys came in later. At least the story given was that the local police wanted to prepare in case there was violence and had extra people on hand including people borrowed from surrounding counties. If the Feds were there at the beginning, I haven't seen that mentioned. Now there are some blogs that are alleging some things, but I don't know where they are getting their information.jmra wrote:Can someone provide a link to the whole FBI and ATF entering within two minutes of the shooting? Everything I've seen stated it was 18 members of local PD and 4 state troopers.
It doesn't bother me that the police and others are playing up the weapons count. What I am a little surprised about is we haven't heard that they were starting to release bikers who were not involved with the violence as they review video. I guess I am surprised they are going ahead with charging all of them for organized crime.
