Back in 2004 when the Assault Weapon Ban was up for renewal, Delay was the politician I heard who actually came out and said "it won't pass" (referring to the renewal). Everyone else I heard on the national scene was giving lip service to anti-gun sympathies.
On the other side, he helped lead the Republican spending increases among other domestic bills that led to the 2006 loss of Congress to the Democrats.
