Re: Ruger LCP $250 at Academy

I failed to mention the Smith & Wesson .380 Bodyguard in the same category. . .

I've never shot anything in this category (micro .380s), so I'll let somebody else chime in with first hand opinions. Since seeing this posted, I've watched a half dozen reviews online, so below is a general summary of what I'm seeing consistently.

The recent comparisons seem to always focus on the Sig P238 (2-3x the price, but much better sights and trigger) and the Glock 42. Some might offer the Kel-Tec, but I haven't watched reviews with it.

The general consensus is that the Ruger is fine for the price, but requires much practice because the trigger has a lot of travel and an unnaturally long reset. Also, in the tests I've seen, the slide does not lock back after the magazine is empty. I thought one reviewer was wise when he said (paraphrasing), "It's a fine gun, but it's not for the shooter who will usually end up with it. It's not for inexperienced shooters.".

When considering price and weight, it's always in the conversation for these micro-guns.

Before buying anything in this category, I'd want to convince myself that the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield in 9mm or .40 really is too big / heavy for the applications being used (deep conceal, pocket gun, etc.) and that I need to step down to one of these.
