Noted...

What brand would you recommend and where should I order from? Links would be good.
I'm excited to finally have my PSA lowers on the way. I don't know whether to go with the PSA LPK, DPMS or Del-ton. So many to choose from. I also looked at the ones with the Geissele trigger and wow...that is a big jump in price.

So, after getting my LPK, buttstock, and sights...
All I need is this upper assembly and ammo then I can start shooting it? Is this good enough for a first build? The price is pretty good but I don't want to buy it if it there is a better option out there for not much more money. This first build is just so I can learn the platform then the 2nd lower will be for something better after I gain more knowledge.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks again for everyones advice and input. They are all greatly appreciated!

Re: Building an AR

I finally bought my stripped lowers. I've never had time to go check out the local ones and ended up waiting. THEN....PSA decides to have another $50 sale on their lowers so I ordered 2. When they come in, I will have something to do during my time off in December. I'll just have to find a nice deal on a couple of LPK.

Re: Building an AR

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Been really busy at work, so by the time I get out, everything is already closed. Hopefully on Saturday I will get a chance to go and check out the lowers personally.

Re: Building an AR

After looking at it again, the Noveske is $140 and is a "factory second", Spikes is $99 and CMMG is $89. I may just go for the CMMG unless PSA runs another special where I can get it for $50.

Plum crazy is polymer and I personally would not get one. That being said, there are people on this forum who have one and they have not had any issues with them. Noveske and Spikes are good lowers, but I have not seen anything that would make them that much better than a $50 lower on sale from Palmetto State armory, all of which are made to "mil-spec" (not talking about billet LR). BTW, the MOE stock and LPK are still on sale for $125. If you plan on using Magpul MOE, then you might want to get this. I cannot find it cheaper anywhere else on the net.

I'm not going to rehash it, but this link will provide you some useful information about the different lower receivers on the market and why one may not be all that much better than another.

You have not mentioned what the main purpose of your new build will be. Plinking, Home defense, hunting, etc, it does makes a difference on what parts you will want to build with. Personally, I would try to save money on the upper and lower receivers and then spend the savings on a better barrel from the likes of Krieger, Douglas, Shilen, etc, but mine is mainly for varmint hunting.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I'll be mainly using it for plinking and home defense.

I'm in Little Elm, work in Plano and hang out a lot at my brothers place in Dallas/Carrollton. I found a place in Farmers Branch that has the Noveske and Spikes for around $100 JP-Ten Sports. Anyone ever buy something from there? I remember seeing that the PSA lowers were on sale for $49 during Labor Day. I wished that I had seen it at the time because I would have bought 2 of them.

Building an AR

I've been reading a lot on building an AR on AR15 forum. Right now I am looking into buying a stripped lower but see that there are ALOT of brands, Noveske, Spikes, CMMG, Plum Crazy (polymer??). Anyone who's put together their own, can you comment on what you would recommend as far as brand for the lowers? I will probably be going Noveske or Spikes, but if anyone can recommend a different brand that will be better, I'm all for it. I'd like to buy the LR locally. TIA.
