I lived in a gated apartment complex in Irving. If something was wrong with the gate, which was not uncommon, it was just left open. If there were outside contractors there working on something, the gate was left open. And even if the gate was closed, it was easy enough to just follow someone else in.
I live in Hackberry Creek here in Las Colinas. The gates have guards, and there is no way to enter the neighborhood without having a valid decal or showing your ID to the guard who will call the homeowner to give that person permission to enter.

No fliers, solicitors, nothing... ever.
