If we knew that, we'd stay in our house on those days. This LEO is obviously a moron.texred1 wrote:He states "do you really think you are gonna need that today?"

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
Part of the problem is it was not being done consistently. And in the past few years, there has been no hassle for CHL'ers at all. I haven't been this year mainly because of this issue, but in the past couple of years, it's been very easy entry... they've obviously changed their policy, and it just plain sucks.Hos wrote:Oh, ok, thanks. I've just read another thread about the fair on this and other forums and got the wrong impression that everything was ok the first few weeks. It may of just been this selective enforcement. I like the poster's idea a few pages back about picking the line where the attendent seems the most disinterested.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
CHL's are not a protected class. While this type of discrimination is disgusting, in the eyes of the law, it isn't discriminationPurplehood wrote:It is akin to making us drink from a separate drinking-fountain. The folks running the fair don't want to make us feel welcome, but they don't want to get hit with a legal suit. So they contrive conditions for our safety and others. Deja vu.
It is certainly inequality in the worse sense of the word. But they may very well have found a grey area.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
There is no logic in this policy. While it may be legal (or it might not be), it certainly serves no purpose.gemini wrote:I think logic was absent when the minds (or mindless minions) that created the "policy" assembled.Mithras61 wrote:I'm trying my best to believe that they are being honest with us, but I keep hearing this "in case something happens," and I can't figure out what they think might happen.
If it's a shooting incident, the LEOs will get your CHL info at that time. The Fair people having it won't be much use to the LEOs, and it is quite unlikely that a CHLer would be involved in a shooting and NOT stay until the LEOs arrive (if it's so likely as they seem to think, why hasn't it happened yet?).
If your gun falls out of your pocket, how are they going to identify it as yours (were they recording serial numbers as well? I bet not!).
So beyond those two things, what do they think might happen that having your name & info might be of use to them?

His post was sarcasm. Last couple of lines said it wasn't true. The Annoyed Man wrote:I have my doubts about this one. As a Grapevine business owner, I am a member of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, and our chamber is very conservative in nature, and the city of Grapevine is very conservative in nature. The chamber helps to organize and staff this event. My wife - who has her CHL - volunteers to work in the various booths there. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I would want to check this one out very carefully before believing it.Brazos wrote:Grapevine Wine Fest – This non-profit, private entity, leases streets and parks each year from the City of Grapevine for a weekend festival. They believe the State Fair, with approval of DPS’s attorneys, has set a precedent by requiring personal information of all CHL holders as a condition of entry. Their volunteers will be logging this information at next year’s event.

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
It's a shame after so many years of not hassling CHL'ers they've now taken this absurd stance.
