Hey Flint,
I've got a question for you. Say you see a sow that has 12 piglets, that are maybe three weeks old, would you go ahead and harvest the sow? To me it would seem a bit morbid, but isn't it the objective to reduce the population?

Re: Is there just no end to them?
LOL No thanks we have plenty. It is soooo dry out here, the place that we hunt has no water right now at all so the wildlife has to travel for it, which is not far, but still on someone else's property. We sat and watched two doe for hours. They would get downwind and get real jittery. Wouldn't leave, just wouldn't get downwind. Pigs are smarter than deer, so if deer were picking up our scent I know the porkers could smell us for sure! Even had cover scent and were in a fifteen foot tower blind.

Re: Is there just no end to them?
No luck on bagging any pork! Saw alot of sign. I think the wind was blowing too hard 10-20mph with gusts up to 40.
Did run across this, while going for a frosty beverage out of the cooler!
Made for an interesting adventure! Last thing that I would have expected in the middle of December was a five foot diamondback curled up next to an icechest! He was a nasty booger! Anyone know how to tan a snakeskin?

Re: Is there just no end to them?
Thanks! Have shot deer with all of the above, was just not sure what an expert on hogs would recommend. Only time I shot a hog was twixt the eyes with a .22lr. Friend of mine hunts hogs with dogs and uses nohting but a 9mm, guess he likes to get up close and personal. If we have any luck we'll post some pics.

Re: Is there just no end to them?
Hey flintknapper, going hog/deer hunting this weekend in the hill country and need some advice. What gun of the following would you recommend? 6mm Remington, 270WSM, or 30-30 ? I have not been to this place but have been told the range would be from 50 to 150 yds.

Re: Is there just no end to them?
There is nothing that raises the hair on your neck like the low growling sound of a sow when it is pitch black and you are walking to your deer stand! I raised pigs back in my FFA days, I know from experience what that sound means when made by domesticated sows! It means "I have piglets and if you make a wrong move I am fixing to tear you a new one".

Re: Is there just no end to them?
Yessir we have hired people to come in and eradicate them! They leave for a month or two and a new group moves in. Smart boogers to boot! They are about the only thing that I fear in the woods!

Ever thought about not feeding them?
They are a big problem! WE have a problem with them on our place outside of Alto. You shoot one and two takes its place!
