Re: "I Carry A Badge" Leather Concealed Weapon Permit Holder

Police officer's don't fixate on the badge, but on the gun. Fratricide is a pretty big problem in law enforcement, which is one reason that officers don't actively get involved in off duty incidents. They will observe and if it doesn't look like someone is going to get killed they remain a witness.

As for Erik Scott getting shot in LV. I don't know anymore than what has been said in the media, and we all know how accurate they are in their reporting, but I find it unusual that all three officers fired. Could they have screwed up? yes, but what makes more sense is that they all believed Mr. Scott was a threat for what ever reason. I also find it odd that he was carrying two guns. When I worked the street as a patrol officer I carried two guns, much to the chagrin of my chief. I never carried two when off duty or in plain clothes. Obviously something went very wrong who ever screwed up. Once all of the investigation is over there will be an after action report that will be very good reading.

The key to concealed carry, stating the obvious, is not only do not let anyone see your weapon, but let the casual observer not even see you. Don't stand out in a crowd. Don't stand out when alone. Appear as if you belong where ever you are at. As silly as it seems, become stealthy. Spies blend in, so should CHL holders.

Also a recommendation is if you think something is about to go messed up, then dial 911 and let the dispatcher have an ongoing narrative from your point of view with your description. When the dispatchers tell the responding officer that the "Complainant" is wearing XYZ, the officer is less likely to identify you as the bad guy in need of being shot. Since 911 tapes are recorded it will be to your advantage to have that on the record.
