Re: August Applications
Yep, plastic arrived yesterday. A hundred and some odd days. Well let's see. Maybe I'll go to WallyWorld, buy a cheap 12-pack and some cheese. Now what do I gripe about???? I am considering purchasing a new Springfield 1911 GI Mil-Spec Micro. That's the 1911 with the 3" barrell. Very compact and in my favo. .45ACP. My XDm .40 is wonderful, but a little bulky. Is a Mac10 a good CCW....??????
I am pullin' for the rest of my Harris County comrades. I'll keep watching here and will probably keep posting smarta$$ comments.........but that's just me.
Cheers,

Re: August Applications
Well saw my legs and call me shorty............I just checked status and it said "Application Completed - license issued or certification active"...! I DONOT have to slit my wrists now. I think it was 105 days from DPS receipt.
I'd like to thank all the people that made this possible, Barrack, mom, dad, and you sis, you never lost faith. I'd like to thank the girl at The Kolache Factory, my secretary, and my fourth grade teacher who once said "Oregon's main products come from forests". (what???)
All kidding of course. Do you guys think that somebody affiliated with Harris County installed 2 little wires in the chairs of the background checkers, that when somebody checks status, it triggers a mild 3-amp 4160VAC charge to the buttocks....???????
Well, it ain't over till the plastic is secure in the wallet, but it looks encouraging. My bananna is not jumping just yet.
This is proof that incessant status checking, crying and moaning together on this forum, etc really does speed the process up
My true hope is that Harris County has a handle on things and that everybody else here gets processed expediantly.

Re: August Applications
Nighthawk,
Because we are all brethren in CHL, here's what I'll do. You hang tight around the house. I'll go do your pheasant hunting for you. I'll even clean the birds and bring you one. If you're worried about the trouble I'd go through for ya, I'll slide by and pick up your credit card and PIN number as well. I'll stay tuned for your approval of this offer.............................

Re: August Applications
I agree with ya Fredtubbs, however, it also reinforces what I speculate happens in the daily routine processing between DPS and Harris County. My thining is that niether DPS or Harris County would ever be able to get ISO9000 certification for the pure and simple reason that they don't have a structured procedure for doing business. I'd be willing to bet that applications get processed somewhat randomly and if the "pile" gets knocked off a desk and gets reshuffled into the deck, so be it. I see it happen in businesses all the time. It's a quality control issue, which ultimately is a management issue. Lack of supervision, responsibility, and accountability result in poor quality, be it product or service. Besides, why should either DPS or Harris County be the agency that "processes" the applications? There are companies out there way better equipped to do tasks like this. Sure, Harris County has the information as well as DPS, but why make them responsible for keeping the chain of paperwork going? ALl they need to do is provide information and approve or disapprove a completed 3rd-party processed application. In other words, let somebody else do the legwork. I know I get up on a soapbox, but what the heck else to do while waiting? We as Americans piss out so much money that government agencies use inefficiently it's no wonder taxes are what they are. OK, I AM DONE NOW AND WILL GO BACK ON COFFEE BREAK.

Re: August Applications
Geeeezzzzzzzzzz!!!! Congrats. Seems like there ought to be a "special" room for Harris County applicants. Or they should state in the information section that : "Harris County applicants will be subject to extreme and extended waiting due to the fact that we can find tons of excuses for why we can drag our foot in getting apps processed." I expect anyday to get an e-mail or letter in the mails stating: "To Harris County Applicants. We apologize for the delay, but due to the fact that the temperature dropped down into the 40's last nite, it will take longer to process applications. Please feel free to contact our office, although we don't man the phones."
I know, I know.......patience is a virtue. So is living in a lower populated county. The benefits of country living. I knew I should have claimed my residence to be my place in Crockett (Houston County)...................I live, I learn.

Re: August Applications
I think that maybe for those of us in Harris County, it's going to be a long Fall. See, although Harris County probably has more applications to process, Harris County also has more tax dollars at work, so that Harris County can afford to utilize state of the art equipment and personnel to do the business that we pay them to do. That is why it will take us folks in Harris County longer to get processed than those in other counties. Bigger county means bigger tax base, means bigger boreauocracy (sp.). No, I'm not bitter......................................
