Re: October Application

Well it has been 102 days now since mine was received by TDPS and it is still showing Processing Application. I last called on day 91 and was told that they were just waiting on the plastic to come in to complete the process.

A while back our Sheriff passed away. This may have been a reason for the holdup. He was a good man and had just been
re-elected. Meanwhile, I'll just take every day in stride, and try to be patient. :waiting:

Re: October Application

Application Approved!!! At least that is what they told me on the phone.

Well it has been 91 days since the DPS recieved my packet. It has been processing for at least 78 days, that I am aware of.
I had called the DPS a few weeks ago and they stated that they were still waiting on my background check.
I just called for the second time and was able to talk to a person handling my application. I was told that it was approved and that she was just waiting for my plastic to come in. My status online still shows Processing Application. I guess maybe it stays this way until they have the plastic ready to be mailed out. Perhaps this is considered part of the Application Process as well. Oh well, at least I know that time is growing near.

YellowTJ wrote:Send the packet in the 21st. How do I check my status? I didn't do anything online, the instructor gave me the packet so everything for me has been a manual process.
First you will need to request a PIN. You probably should wait about two weeks before making the request. They cannot assign a PIN until you are entered into the system.

"In order to login you are required to have a Personal Identification Number (PIN). All PIN’s are assigned by the Texas Department of Public Safety. If you have forgotten, misplaced or never received your PIN, please contact TxDPS via email (chl@txdps.state.tx.us) and include the following information: Texas concealed handgun license number, driver license number, full name and date of birth. Your PIN will be returned in a timely fashion to the same email address submitting the request and in the order your request was received."

In my case they had snail mailed me my PIN one day before I requested one by email. Once you have you PIN go here to check your status. https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NAS ... AppManager click the continue button, then click the Track status of your application link.

Oct. 2008 Applications

Until recently I never felt the need to get my CHL. But with the economy in the tank, and knowing that crime goes up when the times get rough. That along with the fact that I am getting older, I can't run as fast as I used to, and the fear that we could be facing the next four years with a President that would like to take away our right to bear arms, I felt that if there was ever a time to carry, it was now.

OK, so I took the class and mailed the paperwork, now the wait begins. I have always regarded myself as a patient man, but now I feel like a kid dreaming of getting a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, and Christmas is almost a half year away. I keep looking at it in the Monkey Wards catalog, showing it to my mom and explaining all the features it has, keeping a count of the number of days until Christmas, and how the time just seems to come to a halt. I would dream of it at night, and occasionally get my mom to take me to Winns Dime store so I could show it to her.

As I look back over the years, I wonder where did all the time go, it seems like just yesterday. Perhaps if I had been a little more patient when I was kid, those Golden years of youth might have lasted a bit longer.
The one thing I have learned in my old age, is that the waiting and anticipation of what is to come is just as enjoyable, and in some cases more exciting than the gratification of realizing my goal.

So If I may give a little advise to those who are in the same boat as I am. Enjoy the time you have now, don't wish it away for tomorrow, it will get here soon enough. Having the wants for something can be just as exciting as getting it.
Looking foward to meeting the others here in this boat.
Welcome aboard the U.S.S. October!

Took CHL Class: Sept, 27th
Mailed Completed Application to DPS: Oct. 2nd
Application packet recieved by DPS: Oct. 3rd.
