Re: Ammunition at Saxet Gun show, Austin

I try my best to attend the monthly Saxet gun show in Austin. It is only $5 to get in. There is always some sling, tool, magazine, book, hard to find part, surplus junk, or gizmo that I need and can find easily. There are quite a few regular vendors that bring a museum with them; where else can you look at (and touch) an M1941 Johnson (sometimes), M1903A4, M-1 Carbine and M-1 on the same table? There are also the other old rifles I am less interested in like Mosin Nagants, Mausers, SKS etc. I am not into EBR's so I can't comment much, but it seems all the "Barbie for men" parts are there, you can look at them live instead of a grainy on-line picture.

There are deals on handguns, new and used. Remember Academy, etc only sell new.

If the ammo is too expensive at the gun show; don't buy it. Just hope Academy or Wal-Mart has some in stock on your way home. Academy and Wal-Mart don't stock the off-calibers or even 7.62x54R or .30 Carbine, so it is nice to be able to buy at the gun show if necessary.

The parking lot at the Austin Saxet gun show is usually a mad house since the building is shared with a mexican market. Half the vehicles in the lot are for the market. It is amazing to me to see two totally different groups getting along just fine sharing the same building. The news media would have me believe that gun owners and people with roots from south of the border would fight on sight. It may be true that an armed society is a polite society.

Ammunition at Saxet Gun show, Austin

I attended the Saxet Gun Show in Austin on Sunday this weekend. I noticed a lot of pistol ammunition was available. In past months at the same show, it was all gone early by Saturday.

I did notice the prices were much higher than Academy or Wal-Mart, if you can find it there. I saw some .380 for $48 per box.

For the last 2 weeks Academy in Round Rock had over 20 boxes of some Winchester NATO 147 grain "overpressure" 9mm. It sat there on the shelf (with the Monarch and Blazer 9mm) while any WWB or any other 9mm would be gone in hours. I stopped by Academy on Saturday and all the 147 grain was gone. Coincidentally (?) I saw some at the gun show for the first time for double the price Academy had it.

Does this mean we have reached the peak of ammo sales? Have the prices gotten so high from gouging that people have stopped buying? Is everybodies safe already full?
