The way I interpret it, it's for OC and any firearm carried openly into the store.
I THINK that is what they intended but...good grief...look at what the sign says:
Safety Notice
Open Carry and all firearms must be unloaded to enter
Semi-Autos slides locked open
Revolvers cylinders open
All others bolts open
So does this mean Open Carry and all other firearms brought in for other reasons (not holstered) or does it mean ALL firearms to include Concealed Carry?

Also, there is no provision for 'break open' actions (some shotguns, pistols, etc) ?

The sign is just so lacking. If a Gun Shop can't post something reasonably clear, why would we think other businesses know what they are doing? :???:

Re: Carter Country-Pasadena

What I see is that it simply says "all guns".
I too, wonder why they didn't just put up the 30.06 and 30.07 signs in addition to the old sign.
Personally I would assume they don't want customers carrying any loaded weapon in the store, for any reason.
I agree it could be interpreted that way as well. Just makes you wonder why they begin the verbiage with "Open Carry", seemingly delineating? If their intent was that ALL guns be unloaded, then how much simpler to just say "All Guns must be unloaded" and leave it at that.

At best (to me), the sign is poorly written and leaves too much room for misinterpretation.

Or then....maybe I'm just dense, that is also a possibility. ;-)

Re: Carter Country-Pasadena

Prior to open carry they had this same policy.
Some people would come in the store with a gun to get it examined, buy a holster, get a scope mounted, etc.
Prior to open carry, they obviously had to handle the gun so they required that the gun "be made safe" buy opening the action, cylinder or bolt.
Right, I understood that. That is the policy/practice of most gun-shops as concerns hand carried firearms brought in for any reason other than CC. Unless you are saying they didn't then...or now allow Concealed Carry?
This is a continuation of that policy.
I'm with you. The same hand carried firearms brought in for inspection/repair/sale/trade...STILL need to be unloaded. Presumably licensed CC was an exception? Or has CC been prohibited at C-Country in the past?

They do not want open carry in the store so they request that you unload it.
It accomplishes their purpose without a 30.07 sign.
So you're saying the sign is supposed to be interpreted as: All guns except CC, but to INCLUDE OC are to be unloaded and with their actions open?

As written, it seems to imply you can OC....but it must be 'unloaded' OC (with action open)? And CC doesn't seem to be addressed.

Why the long way around? Just post the previous Safety sign and 30.07 and be done with it.

Sounds like they have ONE sign trying to accomplish TWO separate things? IF true...this was my objection in earlier posts about proper signage and the leeway businesses have about posting, not posting or posting non-compliant signs, or 'nicer' signs. Sign games...if you will.

That's the trouble with being a Simple Man (Me). I just don't get it. :headscratch

Re: Carter Country-Pasadena

puma guy wrote:I finally had a chance to go to Carter's Country Pasadena location. As I recall there used to be a sign on the door requesting firearm be brought in open bolts, cylinders and slides opened. I didn't see that sign today but inside the store on a easel I found this the sign pictured below. They have no 30.06 or 30.07, but I assume they will ask to remove and safe up your OC weapon before entering the turnstile.

If I am reading that correctly, if you OC into the store you must have your weapon unloaded and the action open. But if you were to CC that would not be required?

The logic behind that escapes me. Someone help me out?

With either method of carry your weapon is securely holstered and is not being 'handled'.

The ONLY thing different relates to the infamous 'dress code' (a piece of cloth is not covering my pistol).

Not wearing a cover garment doesn't make me any more inclined to handle or un-holster my weapon, if that is their concern? :confused5
