BINGO! The other pic with the rider just having it thrown on his shoulder with the bayonet made me cringe a little. That thing is pointy, and one iffy get off might impale you.

The same way they held them on a horse in a scabbard or sheath of some sorts. I'm sure the stock would protrude in the worst areas though...
