Re: ammo on sale
Yeah, that's the same stuff SPG has for a couple bucks less. However, If I make it to the show and he has some there, I might bite.
I know it has to do with demand and production quantities, but I hate to pay $20 more than the same box sells for in .44 Magnum.
Thanks for your help.

Re: ammo on sale
Should anyone spot .41 Magnum ammo online or in the Houston/SE Texas area, I'd appreciate a heads up.
Sportsman's Guide has Remington green box for $55.07/50, but that's the best I've found.
Georgia Arms has the mild stuff, 210gr @ 800fps. I may wind up ordering some of that for my snubbie.
Otherwise, I'd like to locate a supply of full power stuff for my Marlin carbine, Redhawk, and Blackhawk.
If you thought .380 was scarce..............

Re: ammo on sale
I don't know if this is related to the problems you're having, but all WWB isn't the same. Look on each box to see where it was manufactured.DubiousDan wrote:On another forum I read recently that some people are having problems with WWB .45 feeding in some pistols like Sig P220s. They report cartridges with out of spec and different overall lengths in the same box that won't fit in some magazines and failure to feeds. I've shot a lot of WWB in 40 S&W without any issues so this surprised me. Anyone here having problems?
I recently bought some WWB 100 count boxes in 9mm and 45 but haven't shot any yet. It keeps raining when I have time off. I was disappointed in that the 9mm was just packed loosely in the box and the 45s where packed neatly with cardboard between layers. I guess I should be thankful that I was able to get it at a reasonable price from Walmart.
IIRC, the 100ct boxes are made in USA while the 50ct boxes are loaded in Europe (Serbia, I believe).

Both are accurate and cheap enough for me when i can find it in stock :]
In discussions about WWB, it will be necessary to specify country of origin.

Re: ammo on sale
PRVI is good ammunition. They also make Wolf Gold.joe817 wrote:For those interested in knowing more about Monarch branded ammo found at Academy, I did some snooping in some other gun forums, and found out their ammo is made by a Prvi Partizan in Serbia. They private label Academy's ammo for them.
They do give ballistics for what they make on thier website, but I have no idea of the accuracy of their claims:

But this only applies to Academy's brass cased ammo.
The previous poster was correct that the steel cased Monarch is made in Russia.

Re: ammo on sale
Using +P in a handgun that was not designed for it will cause accelerated wear. S&W .38s from as late as the 80's are not recommended for use with +P.
I would definitely not recommend using +P in your Arminius.
Still, many will practice with standard .38s and carry +Ps.
Regarding self defense / target ammo, there are criteria that we look for in self defense ammo such as good expansion and adequate penetration and these are improved by the higher velocities associated with +P and almost universal use of jacketed hollow point bullets. Therefore, self defense ammo costs more.
Target ammo is loaded with lead cast or completely jacketed bullets and tends to be much less expensive.
So we stock up on the cheap stuff for practice and shoot enough of the self defense ammo to make sure it functions properly in our guns.

Re: ammo on sale
It's just a couple of personal observations, so may not hold 100%.
Sunday afternoon deals used to be very common. Now we joke about having a dealer's inventory almost memorized from show to show.
I watched a smaller dealer turn down an offer $10 less than his $200 price on a S&W model 10 copy. Then I took pleasure in seeing the same gun on his table at every show for more than 6 months. I assume he must have finally gotten his $200.

Re: ammo on sale
Funny you should say this. Friday, an old friend and I were talking. We both go back to the days when the Moody Center in Galvestion held shows, the Saxet show was held the last weekend of every month in Spring, and the Pasadena show was held in the small building by the rodeo arena.
The subject was how many years it had been since we had seen a 'Sunday afternoon deal'. Where dealers would discount something to avoid packing it back and forth, now it seems they would rather haul something around for months before they would discount it.

Re: ammo on sale
Actually, there was a federal requirement, possibly part of GCA 1968, that ended in 1986, that required all handgun ammo purchases to be logged into a bound book similar to that used for firearms.joe817 wrote:No kidding Kevin! That's gotta be company policy, as I've NEVER signed for any ammo in my entire lifetime. They must be headquartered up north somewhere or out in Kalifornia....I think they have to do that over there.
Purchaser info was definitely recorded. Can't recall for sure whether signature was required.
