Federal law requires that you inform the shipper that it contains a firearm. Also, note that the frame or receiver is a firearm even if disassembled.

Those that tell you not to inform the shipper or to ship disassembled to avoid this are advising you to break the law.

Then there is the further issue of shipper liability in the case of loss or damage. Should they lose the package containing your undeclared $1000 pistol, there is a very good chance that your claim would not be paid.

Unless it just changed recently, FedEx and Lone Star Overnight would take the shipments.

Ship handgun to an individual - no go for me.

Tried to send a handgun via UPS today to an individual in San Antonio. UPS would NOT take it. They refused. Told me it was against federal law (ha). Then they told me, ok it's not, but it's against OUR policy. I handed them the printout of THEIR policy. Guy says "read it however you want - I'm not putting MY job on the line and taking it" .. This was at the Dallas (Monroe) UPS Center. Drove over to DFW customer center, and they wouldn't take it either. Go figure. Now how am I going to get this to my buyer in San Antonio?

Tried both of those. Just got off the phone with Lone Star Overnight's customer service dept. and they say NO consumer to consumer. Only consumer to licensee and licensee to consumer. Arrgh.

handguns you do, rifles you dont IIRC
The problem is that previous sellers have learned that there is no carrier that will accept a handgun for shipment between non-licensees in Texas.

To get around that, you must have a receiving FFL for handguns.
