Re: 2010 FAQ: Did you ever use your CH in self-defense?

Last spring, my next door moved out to Austin. I was watching his vacating house all the time. Around end of the summer, I was at home when a beat up truck parked on the front side of his house, and 2 hilly-billy-looking guys, entered the backyard, and proceeded to drill out the back door lock to get access. I grabbed my home gun, packed into a tommys pack and went out to confront the intruders. I questioned the 2 guys why are they doing and who they are, The claimed that they are mortgage co service contractor and they came to post a note, change locks, and take care of the lawn, I asked them to produce document as evidence which they did. I Verified the name of the ex-owner my friend and the produced work order looked legit and that the end of the story. I did not have to call the 911nor producing deadly force means.

Happy ending, but a new forclosed house is next to my house :eek6

I stopped by a Money Box location to cash a sizable check when I needed the money and my bank was closed. I noticed ragged-looking couple who were in there when the teller was counting out my cash following me to my car without conducting any business inside. I was a bit edgy since I knew that they knew I had over $1000 on me at the time, and everything from their looks to their actions just seemed wrong. I put my hand on my pocket carry, turned around, looked the guy straight in the eye and asked him if I could help him with something. That seemed to catch them off guard, and the guy stammered some story about how his life sucked and they had no money, and he just needs to get his wife and baby (no baby in sight, btw) to his brother's place in San Antonio and if I could spare some change for gas. I declined, but offered to give him the number for a church group who would gladly feed them, talk to them about Jesus, and buy him a bus pass. He reluctantly took out an iPhone 4G and took down the number. :headscratch I got in my car, locked it immediately, and left.

I'm guessing it was more likely a "scam this guy for money" thing than a possible robbery, but everything about them set off alarms in my head.
Just shout at them, "STOP and Back off..." Don't get close!

2010 FAQ: Did you ever use your CH in self-defense?

Maybe our community is not too large, it sizable and represent decent number of TX CHLers.
In 2010, have you ever had to draw and/or use a firearm in self-defense?
It is nice to know if we the CHLers are subjected less to violent crimes than the general population. We read a lot of Crime Blotter but few are CHLers and virtually none where members on the board.

For example, Texas has crimes stats per 100,000
Yr: 2009
Pop: 24,782,302
Index: 4,506.4
Violent 490.9
Property 4,015.5
Murder 5.4
Rape: 33.4
Robbery 153.5
Ag. Assault 298.7

So if we look at the Violent crimes 490/100K and assuming we have 4k members on the forum, or some 19 members are subjected to violent crimes per year. Similarly, at least 6 are robbed and 1 is rape victim.
Of course, if we are living in big cities like Dallas and Houston, our expected victim numbers are 3X to 4X higher.
