A weekend armed robbery in Tempe over the weekend left the suspected robber with a gunshot wound to the leg and the homeowner facing criminal charges.

According to police, 28-year-old Patrick E. Morrison of Phoenix forced his way into an apartment in the 1000 block of Orange Street at 8:39 p.m. Saturday, put a gun to the resident's head and forced him to the ground.

"If you look or move, you're done," Morrison told the resident, according to police reports.
Then, police said, Morrison turned over furniture in the apartment and took $40 to $50 cash.

As Morrison ran from the apartment, police said the resident, Jason H. Plimpton, 24, chased him outside and fired a handgun at him. Morrison was hit in the leg but continued to run and escaped, police said.

Plimpton was taken to Tempe St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

While there, officers learned he had a handgun concealed in the front of his pants.

Based on additional evidence he had fired that gun outside his residence, Plimpton was arrested on suspicion of unlawful discharging of a firearm and misconduct involving weapons.

Several hours later, Morrison arrived at a Scottsdale hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. He initially provided officers there with little information and gave police two different names, according to police. He was eventually identified as Morrison and the suspected robber.

After being treated for his injures, he was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, aggravated assault and kidnapping.
