I don't know the man who died in this accident, but the Darwin comment is not warranted. Yes, he tried to do something beyond his skill level, but he was taking a class with a professional instructor and was doing his best to learn what was being taught. After watching the video that Flb_78 posted, I don't think that I would try that particular maneuver. Condolences to those surviving him.

Just an honest response, no sly remark or negative connotation meant. You summed up my point in that when you watched the maneuver your desire for self-preservation kicked in and you decided you would choose not to preform. This gentleman, at 67, should know the risk of handling a loaded weapon period, much less pressed against your chest. Remember, there is no such thing as an accidental discharge only negligent. He paid the ultimate price for his mistake. No less tragic and my feelings go out to his family and friends regardless and hope it serves as a cautionary account to those who read it.

One side of me says how sad and tragic. The other side of me says that this is Darwin in action. Any course worth its salt should teach and stress at all times 4 basic rules of firearm safety. While advanced drills shouldn't be taught at a basic CCW/CHL course, if you aren't comfortable with a drill voice that to an instructor and worse case scenario you lose you CHL money but walk away (potentially in most cases and actually in this case) with your life. Sometimes the hard lessons you can't afford to even learn one time...
