Right now I work at a job that's CHL friendly, but starting next summer I'll be in the education system as a college professor (I have to finish my Master's first.) So it won't be too long until I'm disarmed at work, unfortunately.

I'll weigh in with what I can, being a railfan and, to some extent, a railroader (steam tourist train, attempting to transition into the big leagues.) 1) Amtrak travel is generally not as bad as its made out to be, with one caveat: you have to have realistic expectations. The train will likely be la...

Excellent article by my buddy regarding VT

With all the articles being trotted out by the anti's after VT, I wanted to post this one from the Orange Leader. It's written by a longtime buddy of mine. Both of us graduated college in December; he with a journalism degree from Lamar and me with an English degree from ETBU. He's a faithful 1911 d...

Smokewagon, your skepticism is well-founded. According to the US Department of Justice, in 2001 there were 29,573 TOTAL firearm deaths in the United States, of which: 802 were unintentional 16,869 were suicides 11,671 were homicides* and 231 were undetermined. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs////glance/...

Yes, Snopes is legit.

They caution people, though, to not "take their word" for anything. Their methodology is always presented so one can verify what they say.

You certainly don't want to be the test case. I don't travel a whole heck of a lot, so my experience is pretty much limited to NE Texas, but even in a place as gun friendly as Jefferson/Marshall/Longview, banks seem to always have 30.06 postings; even the local one here in town has it. I suppose peo...

Just a "funny" story about prints from when I took my class... There was an older gentleman there who had lost a finger in the military. When he was printed, our instructor (a former LEO) wrote 'missing' in the appropriate square on both cards, then attached a sticky note explaining that t...

Quick question about an event

I have a question from my boss. He owns a private business here and was told by the local police that he cannot carry a handgun on his property while it is open to the public. I'm not sure how the logistics work out, because he both lives and works on the property. We have customers in his back yard...

I've never been really clear on the difference, either. The SmartCarry was originally called the Thunder Belt, and was created by Charles Parrott III in '94. The Thunderware page says that *it* was patented in '95. Both are made in Florida and look identical (to me). I suspect that they're one and t...

I'll second the P99c vote. They have several trigger styles to fit just about any preference (AS = SA/DA, QA = Glock style, DAO = DAO) as well as interchangable backstraps for individual hand sizes.

Plus it's a damn fine shooting gun.

Heh. Never fails.

I vacationed in Alabama last month and had to lock the P99 in a case, unloaded, as soon as I crossed the state line from Mississippi. But, this is very, very good nonetheless...my sucky timing notwithstanding.

Short of a Federal Courthouse there is no reason we should not be able to carry on Federal Property. Sheesh! Look at al lthe Post Office threads we have seen, I still can figure out what the Feds think......maybe they can go write a few more laws, that should do the trick. You have a safe camping t...

. I will be out there this weekend and if I catch you I will 'have' to provide you a citation. We do have LEO patrol assistance BTW. It could ruin your weekend. :totap: Oh! Boy! So you going to be frisking everyone looking for CHL's? Forgive me but I don't like you attitude. I truly hope you had yo...
